New Year, Same Story

Last Friday was our first time back in class since the holiday break. While the rest of the students were busy tapping into their imaginations to bring our storybook characters to life, I asked Arielle if she would like to “narrate” this weeks lesson and write about it for the blog. These are her words, unfiltered. (The publisher’s letter she mentions will be featured in a future post!)

From the beginning of the school day, 5th and 6th grade students were ecstatic about the 1 o'clock class with Ms. Hope. When the time came, we raced up the steps.  We started talking about the presentation that Friends of the Environment came to do before our Christmas break to be sure all of our characters actually live here in the Abacos, and that the information was truthful.   Then, we read the letter from a publishing company Ms. Hope approached that was amazed about our project about helping raise awareness about reducing the use of plastic.  The class decided to break into groups of three to create our storybook's characters personalities.  Favorite video game characters were shared as reference of how we can dig into our imagination to bring each character to life.  Everyone was recommending ideas for characters to each other and laughter spread across the room.  No one was left out!  Every student enjoys this class and can not wait for the next one.

Our still-unnamed story is taking shape! We can’t wait to share the antics of these Hope Town Harbour pals!
