School Safety at HTPS
Safety is everyone’s responsibility
We first learned there was going to be a fire drill at school in the middle of doing our reading comprehension. We were informed by Mr. Higgs that we will be doing a fire drill and not to be alarmed. When we heard the bell we were excited but also prepared. It was organized as well as rushed, because the students were also excited to exit the building quickly and safely. As soon as the bell rang, we immediately stopped what we were doing, got up and pushed in our chairs, and lined up calmly. Ms. Rolle then came, and her class followed our line outside, then we went onto the southern side of the school which led us to the field. Thank you to Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue officers, Fire Chief Mr. Troy Prichard, and Deputy Fire Chief Mr. Stafford “Captain Plug” Patterson for coming out and showing the students the devices they would use during actual fire. We learn how to safely get out of a building during a fire and even how to use a fire extinguisher.
